Review: It’s Sunday, I just finished having a delicious lunch. The weather‘s nice, its kool‘, but warm with the sun shinning and the only way to make this beautiful Sunday even better, is with a perfect cigar. Today’s choice, the Arturo Fuente Añejo.
This cigar looks good. It has a beautiful Connecticut Broadleaf Wrapper with smooth brown spots. The label is red and gold and easy on the eye. It’s not pretty like Opus X label, but still very nice.
Now, this cigar is by far one of the most exciting smelling cigars I’ve had the pleasure to give the sniffles to. The wrapper and foot smell exactly what my mornings smell like, but let me explain. My whole family is all about tea. In most Spanish cultures we drink tea and coffee from the minute we are born. In the morning we have tea and bread, in the afternoon we have tea and bread and yes, in the evening after dinner its tea and bread.
This cigar smells exactly what I like to drink in the mornings, green tea with lemon. You might think I’m crazy, but this is me and this is my palate. I’m telling you what I know and what I smell. If your thinking “man, this guy doesn’t know what he‘s talking about” maybe your right, but this is why I like reviews. This is why I feel their can never be enough reviews because everyone has a different palate. And my palate smells green tea and lemon. Along with this amazing smell that has me “goo-goo eyes“, the construction is top notch. Let’s see if this cigar is as good as it smells.
On the 1st puffs of this cigar all I got was spice. And honestly it was more like a chili spice. You know the kind where you just let a red chili pepper touch your lip and it gives you that little tingle feeling? I got that. And at this point im worried about The Evil Spice Money, but I continued anyway.
Making my way towards the 2nd part of the smoke, I still got spice, but mixed with a little bit of leather and that delicious lemony taste, but by this point I wanted to put the cigar down because of all the spice i was getting, but again I continued anyway.
I reached the 3rd of the cigar and that was it for me. I put it down and I left it alone to smoke itself out and I left unhappy. This cigar was way to boring for me. It wasn’t keeping me excited and i wasn’t happy to smoke it. On top of that, i got way to much spice that i don’t like. The only other taste I got was leather, but that’s not enough for me to enjoy it.
As much as I didn’t enjoy this cigar, the burn was excellent and the draw was just as good. The aroma gives u that lemony flavor I spoke to you about, which I liked, but I needed more then just that.
Final Note: As always, I try to be as blunt and as truthful with you guys and I have to say it, but this cigar is not for me. And if you don’t like spicy cigars, its not for you. If anything, smelling this cigar is a must. The smell is really something different and special in my opinion. Do I recommend this cigar? No.
Final Grade: C-

I had a couple of these last year and thought they were good. They are essentially an Opus X with a darker (sungrown?) wrapper. Now I think the X is better (but way overpriced and somewhat overrated) but costs about twice the price as an Anejo, unfortunately it isn’t twice the cigar.
