Saint Luis Rey Serie G

Saint Luis Rey Reserva Especial

SAINT LUIS REY SERIE G

Strength: Medium
Wrapper: Black Connecticut Broadleaf
Binder: Connecticut Broadleaf
Filler: Nicaragua
Style: No. 6

This cigar is pretty big and i have to say, its kind of intimidating. At the same time, it looks amazingly delicious. I have plenty of smokes to choose from, but this cigar has me excited. No more small talk, lets get things started on the Saint Luis Rey Serie G.

The Saint Luis Rey looks like midnight. It has a Black Connecticut Broadleaf Maduro wrapper and the tobacco on the foot is just as dark. Its then paired with a nice red label to make the cigar stand out. This particular cigar is pretty big, it’s a “No. 6″, which is 60 x 6.

The wrapper on the Saint Luis Rey gave off a sweet cedar smell, but when i smelled the foot of the cigar, i didn’t get anything. Cutting the cap to check the pre-draw, it was nice and smooth. I picked up a little dark chocolate and spice on my lips from checking the pre-draw.

As i was toasting the foot of the cigar i got tons of smoke and the aroma was fantastic. It was smelling great, but then i started having problems lighting up the cigar and that pretty much killed the enjoyment of the aroma.

I finally got the cigar lit and i started smoking away. The beginning of the cigar was great with an interesting flavor profile. The flavor was a woodsy fruity taste mixed with the rich Maduro taste. At times, i felt like i was smoking gummy bears on a wooden stick, which was a little weird, but really good. Then the burn started to act up on me. As i was smoking away, i was noticing the burn was become uneven, which was causing me to stop enjoying the cigar because i had to fix the burn. I fixed the burn and by the time i reached the middle of the cigar, the taste took a turn for the worse. I wasn’t getting that woodsy fruity taste anymore, just a bad tobacco taste on my palate. Which was also putting a bad taste in the back of my throat. I put the cigar down a little after the mid-way point.

I know ive mentioned this before, but im going to keep on saying it. Anytime you have to continuously fix the burn on a cigar, its never enjoyable. That’s because you have to stop what your doing and just focus on the burn, which sucks. The beginning of the cigar was going great and that lead me to believe i was really going to enjoy this cigar. With the fruity woodsy taste in the beginning, i was thinking to myself maybe i have a new favorite. Clearly that did not happen.

Final Note:
All of my hopes for this cigar went down the toilet, down the pipes, into the sewers to hang out with rats. Maybe a different size could be better? I guess we’ll have to find out another time. For now, i know i cant trust this cigar and it can possibly ruin a beautiful day or evening of smoking.

Final Grade:

One Response to “Saint Luis Rey Serie G”

  1. We had this exact cigar for our cigar club this month and club members seemed to enjoy the large cigar.

My experience was good, the wrapper seemed to come apart as I passed the halfway point, but its a nice smoke.
