CARLOS TORAÑO 1916

Strength: Medium
Wrapper: Cameroon
Binder: Nicaragua (Havana Seed)
Filler: Nicaragua, Honduras
Style: Corona

Anytime someone ask me, “So, what’s some of your favorite cigars?”, Carlos Toraño always comes up second to Padron. While I’m not a big fan of Cameroon wrappers, I have to give this cigar a try. If this cigar lives up to the other Carlos Toraño cigars I have smoked, the people at Toraño will need to build me an office with a desk shaped like the Batman logo because I will praise the brand more then I already have. Ladies and Gentleman allow me to review and share with you my experience with the Carlos Toraño 1916.

The first thing I noticed about this cigar was the very oily wrapper. It looked as if it was dipped in some E.V.O.O. and if that doesn’t make your mouth drool, I don’t know what will. Toraño is excellent at picking the right color and label to match the wrapper and cigar, with the 1916 its no different.

The 1916 is wrapped in a Spanish cedar and when you remove the cedar to get a smell of the wrapper, you get just that. As I checked the pre-draw, I got a really creamy almost buttery peppery taste on my lips. Looks like im in for something good.

Right from the start the 1916 gave me a sweet peppery and light coffee mix. One thing I couldn’t help but notice is the similar start it has to a Tatuaje. I’m not saying it taste exactly the same, but it does remind you of it, specially in the beginning. Besides a great aroma, there is nothing better then a smooth aftertaste and this cigar has it. Through out the rest of the cigar I got a creamy coffee aftertaste with a smooth finish. This cigar was so good I had to nub it and as I got closer to the end, the 1916 became more smoother and gave me hints of wood and more creaminess.

As I mentioned before, the wrapper in this cigar was very oily. It was so oily that I felt my lips were slipping from the cap. I never smoked such an oily cigar before, but I loved it. The aroma was sweet and the burn was slow and perfect. What more can you ask for in a cigar?

By the end of the smoke I was more then pleased. The 1916 has a great balance of flavor and a sweet aroma. It’s definitely something I would buy again and a cigar I could add to my regular rotation. It’s a medium body cigar that you can smoke anytime of the day. I recommend this cigar to any cigar smoker, no matter if you are a mild or full body smoker.

Final Note: I can truly say I am now a huge Carlos Toraño smoker. The blends and taste profiles in their cigars are exactly to my likings. I cant wait for the next one.

Final Grade: B
