Nub Habano

You know that annoying local mom and pops commercial that you cant stand? If you live in the Washington D.C. area think of Eastern Motors. (lol) That’s what “Nub Cigars” remind me of, a very annoying commercial. They have become so annoying to me and to the cigar industry, that I almost didn’t want to smoke one. I am tired of hearing about these fat midget cigars, but im finally going to give it a fair shot. As always, Im going into this with an open mind and im hoping for a wonderful cigar. Allow me to share with you my review on the Nub Habano.
Besides the size of the cigar, which looks like a D size battery. The wrapper in the Habano really stands out. It’s really glossy with some shine to it and also has a very smooth texture. No noticeable veins, no mess ups, nice beautiful color and im really impressed with the quality of the wrapper. It’s definitely a different looking cigar and from a business/marketing aspect, it was a very smart move.
There’s a sweet smell of Honey on the wrapper and a little bit of Pepper. Even though the foot of the cigar is huge, I didn’t get any noticeable scent, only a soft tobacco aroma. The cut on the cap was really smooth and very clean and the constructon of the cigar was close to perfect. So far so good. Lets find out about the flavors …. Shall we?
The Nub Habano starts off with a Sweet, Earthy and Nutty flavor profile, followed by a creamy undertone. The aftertaste was very Woodsy and I hate to do this, but the Nub Habano reminds me exactly how one of my favorite cigars start. And that cigar is the Punch Rare Corojo. That alone is a huge compliment because that is one amazing cigar. Smoking away and moving along, lots of things change. The beginning flavors go away quickly and it changes to a Earthy and Grassy flavor. Its still okay, but just not as good. Which is a huge disappointment because I was really enjoying the cigar and the flavors in the beginning. I didn’t keep on smoking much longer because the flavors I was enjoying were all gone. Remember, I said it starts like the Punch Rare Corojo and that’s it.
Even though the cigar ended extremely boring, through out the whole cigar your palate stays fresh. There’s no harsh smoke feeling on your throat and its very easy to smoke. The aroma is very sweet and its followed by tons of smoke.
I was really impressed with the construction of the Nub Habano. Because of its size I was expecting the worse when it came to the burn and draw, but it was perfect through out the whole cigar. And yes, of course like the pictures we’ve seen, the ash is a 10 and does a perfect hand stand.
Final Note: Just like its size, the flavors fall short. It started off so good, but falls flat so quickly. And because of that I have no plans on smoking this cigar again. I want something more long lasting and definitely something way more consistent. Just because you can do a hand stand doesn’t make you great, I smoke for flavors, aroma and enjoyment, not for you to impress me with your construction.
Final Grade: D+

“Just like its size, the flavors fall short…” wow what a final note! Guess you won’t be making it down for the Nub event at Signature Cigars? LOL
Nice review Stogiebaby. I wanted to try these but I just couldn’t buy the hype. Unless I am gifted one, I am probably going to pass on these cigars.
Jerry - LOL i’ll still go, but only to tell them how bad this cigar is LOL … j/k. honestly, i want to try the other wrappers. just because this one “falls short” maybe the others wont. plus i gotta hold u up to that offer
Joe - I agree, its definitely hype. it wouldnt hurt to try them out, but i wouldnt go out of my way to find them or try getting them.
thanks for the comment love guys!
I’m with you most of the way. I didn’t think that these were that bad but not special either. I want to try the cameroon when I get the chance and don’t think I will be buying any Habano’s (mine was gifted). Great honest review!
I have to say, I drank the koolaid. And am better off for it. If you read the promos the deal with the Nubs is that they are comprised of what they call the heart of the tobacco leaf. Many cigars start off flat then open up. The Nub is that open part. Of all the Nubs the Habano seems to be drawing the most attention. I think simply because of the darker wrapper. But the best are the Connecticut and the Cameroon. Do yourself a favor and try it. By the way, the Connecticut is my favorite and I generally do not like conn wrappers at all. With over 2,000 cigars in my Aristocrats I’ll bet there are less than 10 conn wrapped cigars. Yet the Connecticut was my first Nub box purchase.
Skipper - i’ll definitely try it. thanks for the comment
I enjoyed this smoke quite a bit. But I definately respect your opinion of the Nub, and enjoyed the review.
Tom - Thanks man. Maybe its just not for me, but thats okay. It’ll work for some and for others, it just wont. DEFINITELY i will try the others out and go in to it with an open mind.

You say in a comment “I agree, its definitely hype. it wouldnt hurt to try them out, but i wouldnt go out of my way to find them or try getting them” and yet you’ve only smoked ONE. How about trying the other wrappers? Maybe try smoking the same one again? In the review you say “I was really enjoying the cigar and the flavors in the beginning. I didn’t keep on smoking much longer because the flavors I was enjoying were all gone.” It sounds like you only smoked a little of it, then put it down. Hard to make a decision in the first inch, even with this cigar. Finally, you say “And because of that I have no plans on smoking this cigar again” and yet you make comments above that you will DEFINITELY smoke the others…huh…
I think you need to give the Nub brand a little more time to grow/mature, and a few more trys, before you christen the Nub a gimmick. A D+ is pretty harsh. Try another one, and keep an open mind. It sounds like you had wrote the Nub off as a gimmick from the get go.
RAY - Thanks for the comment, i appreciate your opinion and thanks for sharing.
Yea, it started off great, but it died off so quickly. i dont know what happened. i expected the flavors i was enjoying to last way longer. and i did try to “Troop” it out, but it just wasnt doing it for me. i think anyone who smokes a cigar, will put it out if they’re not enjoying it.
And your right i did only try ONE, but on this ONE, in all honesty came out to a “D+”, but i respect what you say and you bring a good point and you actually just sparked an idea in my head for a feature post. (i’ll explain when the time comes)
i’ll definitely smoke it again, but before i try the “Habano” one more time, i’ll definitely try the others 1st. im crossing my fingers to make it out to a Nub Event in Maryland, but its a drive and you know how gas is lol … hopefully i can get my hands on some others.
when i get the cigars, expect a review! Thanks Ray.

* * * * * * I’m only writing this because so far, every comment and e-mail i received about my Nub Habano Review has been a good one. If they agreed with me or not, it’s remained positive and respectful and i hope it stays that way. * * * * * *
This is only my little opinion. If you read the review i never said “Dont Try This Cigar” or anything in those lines. Im not trying to bash Nub or tell people not to buy them. NO, i would never do that.
If anything (AND READ MY OTHER REVIEWS) i always tell you to “respect my review, use it and let it help you” you should always try out a cigar on your own. Dont let myself, other review blogs or even Cigar Aficionado to make the final decision FOR YOU. You have to trust your own flavor profile and your palate. Do u know how many people i know, who hate the Opus X? lol … man i love that cigar! but others just hate it.
Simply, on that night. It didnt work out for me. I shared with you my opinion and it ends there. i hope you can respect that and i hope it never goes past that.
For everyone who has wrote a comment. THANK YOU, THANK YOU SO MUCH for sharing your opinion in the way that you did. i truly respect everyones opinion!
Thanks,
