What can I say about Montecristo cigars? …. It’s not my cup of tea. Every Montecristo ive had so far has been a huge disappointment. And because of that, im having a hard time figuring out why so many people recommend them. No matter how I feel about any brand, I review the cigar with an open mind and open arms. Wish me luck as I review the Montecristo Media Noche.
Before we continue, the name of the cigar is Media (meh-thyah) Noche (no-cheh). And if your wondering what it means, Media Noche (which is really one word “medianoche”) means Midnight in Spanish. For those of you who do Podcast or Videos, I better not hear you say “media”, as in “Windows Media Player” (LOL) …… Back to the review.
Media Noche was a really good choice for the name of the cigar. Just like the midnight sky, this cigar is almost pitch black. The wrapper is super dark, very oily and with plenty of tooth. It’s definitely an eye catching cigar and a cigar you don’t expect to have the Montecristo label on it.
I hope that I’m not the only one who got this smell, but this cigar smells like a bag of loose Tobacco and Parmesan Cheese. Yes, Parmesan Cheese! Luckily for me, I knew I had a cigar in my hand. If I didn’t know any better, I probably would have taken a bite from the foot. Ive heard of Wine & Cheese before, but can you imagine Cigars & Cheese? Im no expert, but im pretty sure they don’t go well together. Hmmm……… Maybe I’ll have a little experiment in the near future, I think that would make for an interesting post. What’d you think?
The Media Noche waste no time in delivering taste. From the moment you start to smoke, you get flavors of Chocolate, Nutmeg and a Coffee bean aftertaste. Up to the half way point everything was fine and the flavor department delivers, but sadly once you reach the half way point, the flavors die down and the cigar becomes really boring. From that point on, there’s only flavors of roasted coffee and no more Nutmeg, Chocolate or any noticeable aftertaste. It’s not a bad flavor, but it just becomes boring and not rich like when you started.
The aroma is good from the moment you start to light the cigar. The ash is strong, but really flaky, messy and fly’s all over the place. The burn was good and the draw pulls in tons of smoke.
Honestly, I don’t know how I feel about this cigar. It starts off good, but ends bad. It has great flavors, but they fade away quickly. It’s definitely the best Montecristo I have smoked to date, but that’s not saying much. Maybe I’ll have to smoke it again and hope it ends better then it did this time. Its hard to recommend this cigar because its good and bad. But if you’re going to smoke a Montecristo, I would definitely go with this one.
Final Note: I was hoping this was going to be the one. The one that will make me forget all my bad experiences with Montecristo’s. It almost did, but almost isn’t good enough. There’s still hope, one final Montecristo to smoke and that’s the Cuban Montecristo #2. The only problem now is getting it.
Final Grade: C-

I’m still a sucker for the White Label MC’s.
As far as cigars and cheese, would that include a fondue party? LOL Adds a whole new meaning to “infused” cigars… now with Limburger!!
